Dexter Paine Departs the USBA Board and Team Independent Biathlon Withdraws Complaint as Moot

Earlier this summer, Team Independent Biathlon co-founders filed a complaint with the USBA’s Complaint and Grievance Committee against USBA Board member Dexter Paine, alleging that he wrongfully participated in USBA Board meetings concerning the then-planned and proposed merger with U.S. Ski & Snowboard while suffering from self-disqualifying conflicts of interest. (He was a member of the Board of Directors of U.S. Ski & Snowboard at that time as well.) The USBA Board-appointed Hearing Panel ruled that it did not have the authority to act on the Complaint and referred that matter to the USBA Board for resolution. The Board took no action to resolve the Complaint.

Team Independent Biathlon has learned that Mr. Paine is no longer a member of the USBA Board of Directors. TIB has also learned that Mr. Paine is no longer a member of the USBA Foundation.

Accordingly, Team Independent Biathlon is withdrawing its Complaint against Mr. Paine as moot.

This update is being provided so members of the USBA may know that Mr. Paine is no longer a member of the USBA Board of Directors (notwithstanding the USBA website to the contrary) and may also know of TIB’s voluntary withdrawal of the Complaint against Mr. Paine as now moot.
